Planning your project

Make space with the setting in mind.

The shape of the proposed home and the position of established trees should inform each other. Bringing the site and design information together early helps you ask better questions about the construction scope.

Ask which design-review path applies.

Saratoga’s residential-development guidance distinguishes projects meeting objective design standards from proposals needing discretionary review. Discuss the current design with Planning before assuming that the route for one home also applies to yours.

Read the city guidance

Look beyond your property line for tree impacts.

The City identifies arborist review for work close to protected-tree canopies, including trees on neighboring properties. Ask your arborist and design team to review construction impacts before fixing an addition’s footprint or the access needed to build it.

Connect ground conditions to the structure.

Saratoga identifies geotechnical review for qualifying work in areas with geologic constraints. Where relevant, bring the site findings into the structural and construction discussions. Do not assume a foundation approach from a different property is suitable here.

What we build

Start with the space
you have in mind.

Additions and new homes lead our work. We also build ADUs, whole-house remodels, sunrooms and garage conversions.

Our first conversation

Bring what you have.
We’ll start there.

You do not need every answer to get in touch. These details help us understand the work you are considering.

Architectural drawings, a house model, pencils and material samples arranged for a planning discussion.
Bring the drawings, priorities and questions into one conversation.
  • A site plan with trees near the proposed construction
  • Any arborist report and information about protected trees next door
  • Available geotechnical information and proposed foundation drawings
  • Planning comments and your priorities for the new living spaces

Before we talk.

Do trees matter if we are keeping all of them?

They can. Construction near protected trees can require review even when removal is not proposed. Saratoga’s guidance addresses nearby work and neighboring trees as well as trees on the project site.

Can you build from our architect’s design?

Yes. We can review the intended scope with your architect and discuss construction details, unresolved selections and the site information available.

Should we choose an addition or a new home first?

Start with the outcome you need: rooms, circulation, privacy and access to the outdoors. We can discuss the construction implications of the options while your design team checks them against the property’s requirements.

City guidance checked September 18, 2026. The applicable requirements depend on your property and proposal; confirm them with the City and your design team.
