Home additions & new homes in Hillsborough.
A larger home should still feel like your home. Sami & Sons works with Hillsborough homeowners considering additions, replacement homes and substantial remodels, with the construction scope shaped around the design and the family who will use it.

Make the design story coherent.
The house, materials and landscaping deserve to be considered together. Establish what should change, what should remain and how the finished home should relate to its surroundings before the drawings become more detailed.
Match the review to the proposal.
Hillsborough distinguishes administrative review for minor work from Architecture and Design Review Board review for larger proposals, including new homes and substantial additions. Discuss the intended scope with Planning early rather than assume every alteration follows the same route.
Read the city guidanceConsider the whole exterior.
The Town’s planning guidance identifies development standards and residential design guidelines covering matters such as setbacks, height, materials and colors. Your architect should review the proposal as a whole, including its relationship to the site, rather than resolve each exterior decision in isolation.
Read the city guidanceUse the review stage to resolve decisions.
The ADRB is the Town’s architecture and design-review body. Bring the current drawings, review comments and resulting conditions into the construction conversation. Changes between an early presentation and an approved design need to be reflected in the scope being estimated.

Additions and new homes lead our work. We also build ADUs, whole-house remodels, sunrooms and garage conversions.
Bring what you have.
We’ll start there.
You do not need every answer to get in touch. These details help us understand the work you are considering.

- Existing and proposed plans, including elevations
- The material and landscape direction, even if some choices remain open
- Planning or ADRB comments and the latest revised drawing set
- Your priorities for retaining character, improving circulation and creating room
Before we talk.
Does a modest addition always need the same review as a new home?
No. Hillsborough describes different levels of review. Planning staff should confirm the appropriate route based on the proposed work and its effect on the property.
Can we bring our architect to the first conversation?
Please do. It helps to understand the design intent directly and distinguish decisions already agreed from details that still need coordination.
What if the design changes after an estimate?
Bring the revised drawings back into the discussion. The scope, selections and assumptions used for an earlier estimate should be compared with the new version before treating it as the same work.

City guidance checked September 18, 2026. The applicable requirements depend on your property and proposal; confirm them with the City and your design team.
Let’s talk about your
Hillsborough home.
A father and his sons. A conversation about what comes next. Estimates are complimentary.
