Kitchen Remodeling in Palo Alto & San Jose, CA
The kitchen is the most important room in your home — the place where families gather, meals are made, homework gets done, and guests congregate at every party. It's also the single home improvement with the most consistent return on investment in the Bay Area market. At Sami & Sons, we design and build custom kitchen remodels for homeowners across Palo Alto, San Jose, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and the greater Bay Area — delivering kitchens that are as functional and durable as they are beautiful.
We are a licensed, family-owned Bay Area contractor with 15+ years of experience and over 1,000 completed projects. Our kitchen remodeling team manages every aspect of your renovation in-house: 3D design, cabinetry, countertops, tile, electrical, plumbing, appliance installation, and finish work. One team, one schedule, one contractor accountable for the complete result.
3D Kitchen Design — See It Before We Build It
Before we touch a single cabinet, we create a complete 3D rendering of your new kitchen — showing every cabinet in place, your countertop material against your flooring selection, your lighting layout, and your appliance placement. You can evaluate layout options, swap materials, and refine every detail until the design is exactly right. This investment in design clarity prevents the mid-project changes and misunderstandings that derail kitchen renovations, and ensures the finished kitchen matches your vision precisely.
Our Kitchen Remodeling Process
We start with an in-home consultation and precise measurements of your existing kitchen. From those measurements, we develop layout options — working within your existing footprint or opening it up with structural modifications — and help you evaluate the tradeoffs between different approaches. Once the layout is set, we move into material selection: cabinet style and finish, countertop material, backsplash tile, flooring, lighting, and hardware.
With design approved and materials selected, we handle all required permits and begin demolition. Our licensed plumbers, electricians, and carpenters work in coordinated sequence — rough trades first, then cabinetry, then countertops, then appliances, tile, and finish work. We protect adjacent rooms from dust and debris throughout the project and clean up the work area daily.
Licensed for All Trades — No Third-Party Surprises
Kitchen remodels frequently involve electrical panel upgrades for modern high-draw appliances, plumbing changes for relocated sinks and dishwashers, and sometimes structural work to open up walls between the kitchen and adjacent living spaces. Our team is fully licensed for all of these trades and performs them in-house. You don't have to worry about coordinating electricians and plumbers who don't communicate with each other — we manage the full sequence from a single point of accountability.

Custom Cabinet Design & Installation
Cabinetry represents the largest portion of most kitchen renovation budgets — and for good reason. The right cabinet system transforms your kitchen's storage capacity, workflow efficiency, and visual character simultaneously. We design custom and semi-custom cabinet layouts that maximize every inch of your kitchen: pull-out shelving in base cabinets for pots and pans, deep drawers instead of base cabinet doors where they make more functional sense, corner solutions like lazy Susans or pull-out trays that actually use corner space, tall pantry towers, and appliance garaging that keeps countertops clear.
We work across multiple price points — from well-made semi-custom cabinetry that delivers excellent value to fully custom boxes built to the exact dimensions of your space. Regardless of price point, we specify cabinets with plywood box construction (not particleboard), full-extension soft-close drawer glides, and concealed soft-close hinges — the fundamentals that determine how your cabinets perform and feel five and ten years after installation.
Door styles range from clean Shaker profiles and modern frameless flat-front designs to raised-panel traditional styles and beadboard inserts — and finish options cover the full spectrum from painted white and navy to natural wood stains and two-tone combinations. We'll help you find the combination that works for your home's architecture and your personal taste.
Countertops — Quartz, Granite, Marble & More
Your countertop is the working surface of your kitchen — it needs to be beautiful, yes, but it also needs to hold up to cutting boards, hot pans, spilled wine, and twenty years of daily cooking. We source countertops from trusted Bay Area stone yards and fabricators, and we guide you through the material tradeoffs honestly so you end up with a surface you'll love working on for years.
Engineered quartz — Caesarstone, Silestone, Cambria, and others — is our most popular recommendation for Bay Area kitchen countertops. It's non-porous, stain-resistant, heat-tolerant, and requires zero sealing or special care. The range of colors and patterns has expanded dramatically in recent years, and premium quartz now convincingly replicates the look of Calacatta marble without any of the maintenance challenges.
Natural granite remains a beautiful and durable choice for homeowners who want the authenticity and unique character of natural stone. Marble offers unmatched elegance but requires more care — we'll help you evaluate whether the maintenance tradeoff is right for how you cook. We also work with quartzite, soapstone, and butcher block for clients who want something specific or unusual.
Every countertop installation begins with precise digital templating of your kitchen's actual dimensions, ensuring tight, accurate fits at walls, appliances, and sinks. Our installers make clean cuts for all cutouts and deliver polished edges that reflect the quality of the overall renovation.

Lighting, Electrical & Appliance Integration
Great kitchen lighting makes everything better — food looks more appetizing, tasks are easier and safer to perform, and the kitchen feels more welcoming at every hour of the day. We design layered lighting schemes that combine recessed ceiling lighting for ambient illumination, under-cabinet LED strips for task lighting at the countertop level, pendant lights over islands and peninsulas that add visual interest and focused light, and accent lighting in glass-front cabinets or open shelving that creates depth and warmth.
We handle all electrical work in-house — updating electrical panels where needed to support modern high-draw appliances, running dedicated circuits for refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens, and other appliances that require them, installing under-cabinet lighting wiring cleanly inside the wall or cabinet before the cabinets go in, and ensuring the complete electrical installation meets California Electrical Code and passes Palo Alto or San Jose Building Department inspection.
For appliance integration, we handle precise rough-in measurements, plumbing connections for refrigerators with ice and water dispensers, gas line connections for ranges and cooktops where required, and final installation and testing of every appliance before we hand over the finished kitchen. If you're selecting new appliances as part of your renovation, we can advise on dimensions, features, and specifications that will work best with your new cabinet layout — before you purchase anything.
Frequently Asked Questions
Kitchen remodel costs in Palo Alto range from $45,000–$80,000 for a mid-range renovation with quality semi-custom cabinets and engineered stone countertops, to $100,000–$200,000+ for a fully custom renovation with structural changes and premium materials throughout. The biggest cost variables are cabinetry selection, whether structural work is involved, and countertop and appliance choices. We provide detailed estimates during your free in-home consultation.
Most kitchen remodels take 6–10 weeks from demolition to final walkthrough. Projects requiring permits — which includes structural work, electrical panel upgrades, or plumbing relocations — add 3–5 weeks for permit approval before construction begins. We include permit timelines in your project schedule and maintain clear communication throughout.
Yes — 3D design visualization is included with every kitchen remodel. We create detailed renderings showing your new layout, cabinet styles, countertop materials, lighting, and finishes so you can see the finished kitchen before we begin construction. We refine the design until you're fully satisfied before ordering any materials.
Yes — wall removal and open-concept modifications are a common part of kitchen remodels. We evaluate whether the wall is load-bearing, provide the required structural engineering, obtain permits, and install properly sized beams or posts to safely open the space. Many of our most dramatic kitchen transformations involve opening the kitchen to an adjacent dining room or living room.
